| In Israel, there are many delicious dishes! We've already covered how to order them, but now how to eat them! However, that is not always so straightforward. In this lesson, we'll learn how to ask, "How do you eat this?" |
| In Hebrew, "How do you eat this?" is ?אֵיךְ אוֹכְלִים אֶת זֶה, Eikh okhlim et ze? Let's break it down by syllable, ?אֵיךְ אוֹכְלִים אֶת זֶה, Eikh okhlim et ze? Now, let's hear it once again, ?אֵיךְ אוֹכְלִים אֶת זֶה, Eikh okhlim et ze? The first word אֵיךְ, Eikh means "how." Let's hear it one more time, אֵיךְ, Eikh. Then, you have אוֹכְלִים, okhlim, which means "eats." To recap here, we have ?אֵיךְ אוֹכְלִים, Eikh okhlim. Literally, this means "how is it eaten." Let's look at the next words אֶת זֶה, Et ze, which means "this." All together, we have ?אֵיךְ אוֹכְלִים אֶת זֶה, Eikh okhlim et ze? Literally, this means, "How is this eaten?" |
| Finally, we will talk about something that may come in handy for everyone who doesn't like hot things. Israeli cuisine is not known for being spicy, but if you are visiting some areas, you will probably find some typical spicy dishes. The question "Is this hot?" in Hebrew is ?זֶה חָרִיף, Ze kharif? The first word זֶה, Ze means "is this." Let's hear it one more time, זֶה, Ze. Next, we have חָרִיף, kharif, which in English is "hot, spicy." All together, we have ?זֶה חָרִיף, Ze kharif? Literally, this means "Is it spicy?" |
