Cultural Insight |
Eric: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight. |
Yaara: The key word of any phrase regarding direction - such as "where are you going?" or "I'm going to that place" - is the preposition ל - "le", which means "to". let's practice some of its forms: |
le'an?, meaning “where?” |
le'mesiba, meaning “to a party.” |
When the place you’re going to is a specific one, the "le" sound is combined with a "ha" sound, meaning "the", and turns into a "la" sound, for example.. |
ani holekh la'mesiba, meaning “I'm going to the party.” |
or hi nosa'at la'mishpakha shela, meaning “she’s going to her family.” |
Listeners, did you know that when you sneeze in Israel, people will say la'bri'ut, which means something like "to health!" |
