Lesson Transcript

Hi, everyone! Welcome to Hebrew Top Words. My name is Yaara and today we’re going to learn 10 Phrases to Amaze Native Speakers. Okay, are you ready? Let’s start!
1.
אני אדבר עברית ברמת שפת אם תוך שלוש שנים
(ani edaber ivrit beramat sfat em tokh shalosh shanim)
"I'll speak Hebrew in a native level in three years."
You think you can? Well, prove it! Start now!
2.
אני יכולה לצפות בסרטים בעברית ללא כתוביות
(ani yekhola litspot besratim beivrit lelo ktuviot)
"I can watch movies in Hebrew without subtitles."
There are actually a lot of good movies done in Israel in the last, like, 10 years. Obviously more, but if you want to, you know, be updated, few of my favorite are “Jellyfish,” which is amazingly good, I think. And another one who was actually nominated for the Academy Awards called
ואלס עם באשיר
(Vals Im Bashir) “Waltz with Bashir”
I think. It’s a really good movie.
3.
אני יכולה לשנ בערךן חמישים מילים חדשות בעברית ביום
(ani yekhola leshanen be'erekh chamishim milim chadashot beivrit beyom)
"I can memorize around 50 new Hebrew words a day."
That’s crazy! Can you? You say that to me and I will be amazed, just saying.
4.
אני לומדת עברית כבר עשר שנים
(ani lomedet ivrit kvar eser shanim)
"I've been learning Hebrew for ten years."
Well, that would only amaze me if you don’t speak Hebrew at this point, because learning a language for 10 years and not being able to speak it, well, that is amazing.
5.
אני לומדת עברית לגמרי לבד
(ani lomedet ivrit legamrey levad)
"I'm learning Hebrew all by myself."
That is impressive. How do you do that? With HebrewPod101.com? Well, in Israel, when we’re impressed, we have this sound that we make. It goes “Pshhh”. Okay, this is what you say when you’re impressed. All by yourself? Pshhh. I am amazed, you know what, amazed.
6.
הבנתי את כל מה שאמרת
(hevanti et kol ma sheamart)
"I understood everything you said."
That’s a funny one.
הבנתי את כל מה שאמרת
(hevanti et kol ma sheamart)
I hope you understand everything I say. Otherwise, I’m just sitting here talking to myself. But you know what, props to you, pshhh.
7.
חוץ מעברית אני יכולה לדבר גם כמה שפות אחרות
(chuts meivrit ani yekhola ledaber gam kama safot nosafot)
"Apart from Hebrew I can speak a few other languages as well."
Well, that’s just bragging.
חוץ מעברית אני יכולה לדבר גם כמה שפות אחרות
(chuts meivrit ani yekhola ledaber gam kama safot nosafot)
"Apart from Hebrew I can speak a few other languages as well."
Well, you don’t need to brag okay? I only have two. How many languages can you speak? Leave a comment below. Make us jealous.
8.
לקח לי רק שנה אחת על מנת לדבר בשטף
(lakach li rak shana achat al menat ledaber beshetef)
"It took me only one year to become fluent."
Well, I am amazed by that because as you probably already know, Hebrew is a difficult language to learn, but I think it’s doable.
9.
עברית היא כיפית וקלה ללמידה
(ivrit hi kefit vekala lelemida)
"Hebrew is fun and easy to learn."
I will be happy if you think that. Yeah, do you agree? Is Hebrew fun and easy to learn? I hope you do.
10.
תודה אבל זו לא שפת האם שלי למען האמת
(toda aval zu lo sfat haem sheli lema'an haemet)
"Thank you, but I'm not a native speaker actually."
You’re not a native speaker? Pshhh, then pshhh, you’re really good.
One that would really amaze me will be
למדתי את כל זה אתמול
(lamadeti et kol ze etmol)
"I learned all of that yesterday."
Pshhh. It must have been a busy day.
Okay, thank you so much for watching 10 Phrases to Amaze Native Speakers. Now, go out there and amaze some native speakers. Don’t forget to subscribe, and we’ll see you on the next video. Bye! Pshhh, pshhh.

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for posting!

Wow, these are many languages! This is very good - I got the feeling that the more languages we learn, the easier it becomes to learn new ones... 😄

Enjoy learning Hebrew, and let us know in case you have any questions! 👍

Best,

Roi

Hi Jeannet,

Thanks for commenting.

מילה Mila - is a feminine noun with an irregular plural form ('im' and not 'ot'), even though the ending sounds masculine it's still a feminine noun in plural.

Roi

Shalom! May be I am tired, the 9th sentence has 'chamishim milim chadashot'. Why does it not have 'חמישים מלים חדשים' chamishim milim chadashim?

Hi Shelley,

Great work! some small corrections -

1. למען האמת עברית היא כפית ובר השגה אם אתה עובד באופן עקבי

2. אני לומדת עברית ברמה בינונית

3. כדי להיות לדבר שוטף, אשנן שירה ישראלית

4. היום אנהג לגמרי לבד ?

Roi

Actually, Hebrew is fun and achievable if you work consistently. למען האמת עברית היא כפית ובר השגה אם אתה עובד באופן עקבי

I study hebrew at an intermediate language level. אני לומדת עברית ברמת שפת בינונית

In order to become fluent, I will memorize Israeli poetry. כדי להיות בשתף אשנן את שירה הישראלית

Today I will drive all by myself. היום אנהג לגמרי לבד
