Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to ask and answer the question, "How do you say this?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to ask someone how a word is pronounced.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
איך אומרים את זה?
(Eikh omrim et ze?)
זה נקרא ״חניון״.
(Ze nikra khenion.)
Once more with the English translation.
איך אומרים את זה?
(Eikh omrim et ze?)
“How do you say this?”
זה נקרא ״חניון״.
(Ze nikra khenion.)
"It's 'parking lot.'”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “How do you say this?”
That's:
איך אומרים את זה?
(Eikh omrim et ze?)
Listen to it again:
איך אומרים את זה?, איך אומרים את זה?
(Eikh omrim et ze?, Eikh omrim et ze?)
This Hebrew sentence means something like " How (do) they say it? ” But it means “How do you say this?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
זה נקרא [ ].
(Ze nikra [ ].)
This Hebrew sentence literally translates into " It is called [word].
For example:
"It's 'parking lot.'”
זה נקרא ״חניון״., זה נקרא ״חניון״.
(Ze nikra khenion., Ze nikra khenion.)
