In fact, traveling by train can be one more way to see all the wonderful things Israel can offer! |
| You have to ask for tickets for the רַכֶּבֶת, Rakevet "train" at the ticket office and you can accomplish this by asking, …כַּרְטִיס אֶחָד לְ, Kartis ekhad le... and then your destination. |
| Now, of course, we need a destination, so let's use the wonderful city Jerusalem. How do you ask for a ticket to Jerusalem? |
| "One ticket to Jerusalem" in Hebrew is כַּרְטִיס אֵחָד לִירוּשָלַיִם, Kartis ekhad leyerushalaim. Let's break it down by syllable, כַּרְטִיס אֵחָד לִירוּשָלַיִם, Kartis ekhad leyerushalaim. Let's hear it one more time, כַּרְטִיס אֵחָד לִירוּשָלַיִם, Kartis ekhad leyerushalaim. This sentence is made up of כַּרְטִיס, Kartis "ticket," followed by אֵחָד, Ekhad "one," and the preposition "for," which in Hebrew is לִ, Le, attached to the name of the destination, ירוּשָלַיִם, Yerushalaim. | Let's now imagine that you are not traveling on your own, but with someone else, so you need to ask for two or more tickets. "Two tickets to Jerusalem please," in Hebrew is שְׁנֵי כַּרְטִיסִים לִירוּשָׁלַיִם, Shnei kartisim leyerushalaim. As you can see, it's very easy to understand. In place of כַּרְטִיס אֶחָד, Kartis ekhad "one ticket," you have the number שְׁנֵי, Shnei "two," and then the plural noun כַּרְטִיסִים, Kartisim "tickets."
