Hi Rick,
Thank you for your comment!😄
That's a great question! In the phrase "מה שלומך?" (ma sh'lom'kha/sh'lomekh?), "מה" literally means "what," but the entire phrase is an idiomatic expression meaning "How are you?" in English. Although "מה" usually translates to "what," in this context, it functions similarly to "how" due to the idiomatic usage. That's why in this lesson where the phrase "How are you?" is taught, in this context "mah" would be translated to "how" instead of "what."
Happy learning!
Yours,
Tal

In this lesson it says that מה means how. I thought “how” was איך?

Thank you again, Yaara.
Hi Shelley Lynn,
Well, you could say (as you did) *שלומי לא רע *מדי, but it sounds a little weird - it's a bit different in Hebrew, it means you are doing bad, but it is still bearable. I just thought it might be a bit too dramatic, but it's not a mistake in itself.
Anyway, I hope you are doing great
Sincerely,
Yaara

Thank you, Yaara. I understand your changes, but if I want to emphasize" too " I am not too bad, How would you write it? Thank you for your excellent assistance.
Hi Shelley Lynn,
Thank you for posting.
"How are you? I am not too bad. Last week I was sick, but the children are excellent."
.מה שלומך? שלומי לא רע. בשבוע שעבר הייתי חולה, אבל הילדים מרגישים מצוין
In Hebrew, when you say אני מצוין - I'm excellent - It will mean "I am excellent" as in "I am an excellent person". If you want to say you are doing excellent, you can say שלומי מצוין or אני מרגישה מצוין (I feel excellent).
Good job!
Sincerely,
Yaara
